Top 20 UK Festivals to get to for Summer 2019!

The countdown has officially begun! Whilst we're still waiting on a few more UK festivals to be confirmed, most have released their lineups by now which means that I can FINALLY show you (in chronological order) the ones you need to keep an eye on for this summer....WE'RE ALMOST THERE, WE CAN TASTE IT.

April


@ Roundhouse, London (13th April) Favourites: Laura Mvula, Kamaal Williams Based at Camden's Roundhouse, this set to be an elaborate metropolitan-style festival for those seeking to get their jazz-pop thrills...

 

May


@ Brighton, Brighton and Hove (9th-11th May) Favourites: Biig Piig, Connie Constance, Joy Crookes, Petrol Girls, Pip Blom, Squid, Yves Tumor


For those looking to get their fix of underground acts spanning a wide array of genres alongside a beautiful coastal-side town then look no further! A must-go!

 

May-June


@ Victoria Park, London (24th May-2nd June) Favourites: - The Chemical Brothers, Danny Brown, Jon Hopkins, Peggy Gou - The Strokes, Interpol, Parquet Courts, Courtney Barnett, Anna Calvi - James Blake, Kamasi Washington, Beach House, Kurt Vile, Rina Sawayama, Princess Nokia - Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, Run The Jewels, IDLES - Bon Iver, Mac DeMarco, John Grant, The Tallest Man on Earth, Julien Baker Held over two weekends at London's Victoria Park every year, this is set to be a super cost-effective way of seeing many of the best current acts within a short window of time...just pick your day and GO!

 

June


@ Meridian Water, London (7th-9th June) Favourites: Jorja Smith, Pusha T, Earl Sweatshirt, The Black Madonna, Deerhunter, HAAi, JPEGMAFIA, Julia Holter, Skee Mask Having moved from last year's site on Brockwell Park in Brixton, this year is already set to be slightly different yet more enticing with later curfews, bigger acts, and an elaborate new site in North London...


@ Heaton Park, Manchester (8th-9th June) Favourites: Cardi B, Solange, Migos, Nas, Kaytranada, Jungle, Pusha T, Loyle Carner, Slowthai, Earl Sweatshirt, Peggy Gou, Denis Sulta, Daniel Avery, Yaeji, JPEGMAFIA, Kero Kero Bonito At the heart of Manchester's Heaton Park, the city will come together for yet another weekend filled angsty millenials, intoxicated teens, and an exciting array of music across the spectrum of genres.


@ Donington Park, Derby (14th-16th June) Favourites: Slipknot, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, Slayer, Lamb of God, Dream Theater For all the metal-heads/hard-rock enthusiasts out there, this is primarily the festival for you to attend this year - featuring some of the greatest and most influential metal acts in its history!


@ Pilton Farm, Somerset (26th-30th June) Favourites: Stormzy, Janelle Monae (much more TBC...) Where can I even begin with this festival?! Not much has been announced so far in the way of music acts, however, there's much to anticipate within the elusive grounds of the festival which conjure its own unique world in Somerset every year...a must-go for any festival thrill-seeker!

 

July


@ Gunnersby Park, London (12th-13th July) Favourites: Chance The Rapper, Solange, Four Tet, BROCKHAMPTON, Loyle Carner, H.E.R, Action Bronson, Kaytranada, Slowthai, Ross From Friends Featuring some of the best rappers and R&B-Pop artists in the game, this metropolitan festival at the height of the British summer is set to be a great one!


@ Moseley, Birmingham (12th-14th July) Favourites: The Jacksons, Burt Bacharach, Ibibio Sound Machine, Oscar Jerome, Odd Soul Heading over to the Midlands of the UK, can we find our fix of jazz and soul amongst the legendary Jacksons spear-heading it all!


11. Bluedot

@ Jodrell Bank Observatory, Cheshire (18th-21st July) Favourites: Kraftwerk, New Order, Hot Chip, Jon Hopkins, Kate Tempest, John Grant, Anna Calvi, Ibibio Sound Machine, Elder Island, Audiobooks From the Krautrock of Kraftwerk, to the rapping of Kate Tempest, to the soul of Ibibio Sound Machine - this festival will certainly tick all the musical boxes in the heart of Cheshire!


10. Truck

@ Hill Farm Building, Abingdon (26th-28th July) Favourites: Foals, Slaves, Wolf Alice, IDLES, Shame Based in the nearby town to Oxford, the intimate festival will hit back this summer with a slew of beloved acts in the British art-punk, post-grunge hall of fame...

 

August


@ Cherry Hinton Hall, Cambridge (1st-4th August) Favourites: Calexico, Iron & Wine, Jose Gonzalez, Nick Mulvey, Gruff Rhys, Tunng Speaking of hall of famers, there'll be some within the respective folk genres at the heart of Cambridge in August!


@ Fistral Beach, Newquay (7th-11th August) Favourites: Florence + The Machine, Foals, Jorja Smith, IDLES, Soak, Dermot Kennedy Based in the south-western tip of England, this surf-music festival stands apart from its festival contemporaries with some illustrious summer sunsets, Cornish cuisine, and some of the most popular music in town...


@ Winchester, Hampshire (7th-11th August) Favourites: Ms. Lauryn Hill, Prophets of Rage, Kate Tempest, Four Tet, Erol Alkan, Eats Everything, Carl Cox The weird and wonderful festival in Hampshire is well and truly back this summer promising to conjure its own unique town bordering on true obscurity and hallucination - whilst also featuring the legendary Ms. Lauryn Hill!


@ Fernhill Farm, Bristol (15th-17th August) Favourites: Meshuggah, Zeal & Ardor, 65daysofstatic, Daughters, Caspian, Three Trapped Tigers Revelling in the noise-rock, experimental end of things - ArcTanGent is one of the few festivals left in the UK bringing these acts to you within one of the UK's brimming punk scenes - Bristol.


@ Brecon Beacons, Wales (15th-18th August) Favourites: Four Tet, Father John Misty, IDLES, Sharon Van Etten, Car Seat Headrest, Big Thief, Aldous Harding, Julia Jacklin, Sons of Kemet, Pigs x 7, Porridge Radio, TVAM Producing one of my favourite lineups this year - the Welsh-based festival has done it again with their alluring list of acts drawn in from electronic, punk, folk and various others...it may be a damp one but surely a memorable one, too!


@ Abbots Ripton, Cambridgeshire (15th-18th August) Favourites: Tirzah, Comet is Coming, Sons of Kemet, Moses Boyd Exodus, Kokoroko, Children of Zeus, Yazmin Lacey, Gilles Peterson, Skee Mask Who knew Cambridgeshire would even titillate the idea of an electronic music festival?! Must be due to those hard-working university students...plenty of illustrious acts from an array of genres here!


@ Norton Disney, Lincolnshire (22nd-25th August) Favourites: Maribou State, Superorganism, Peggy Gou, Slowthai, Yves Tumor This festival's village is truly lost within the depths of Lincolnshire - showcasing some of the most prominent acts within the electronic genres encompassed by a fanatical town...


@ Richfield Avenue, Reading / Bramham Park, Leeds (23rd-25th August) Favourites: The 1975, Post Malone, Twenty One Pilots, Foo Fighters, Royal Blood, Anderson .Paak, Frank Carter, Mura Masa, Billie Eilish, Slowthai, Chvrches, The Japanese House For all the teens and pre-pubescent hipsters in search of their music fix this summer will need no introduction to this festival. Whilst this festival may be beyond me yet, there's still a slight degree of intrigue with this year's lineup - ever-changing towards the popular-chosen hip-hop and R&B acts. (Generally not recommended to those above the age of 18).

 

August - September


@ Larmer Tree Gardens, Salisbury (29th August-1st September) Favourites: Beirut, Michael Kiwanuka, Courtney Barnett, Jarvis Cocker, Low, Deerhunter, Parquet Courts, Mitski, Daniel Avery, Serpentwithfeet, Let’s Eat Grandma, Black Midi, Kero Kero Bonito, Pigs x 7, Porridge Radio, TVAM Very similar to its Welsh counterpart earlier in the month, End of the Road promises to showcase many folk/indie/experimental acts paving the way in the UK...
