The Ultimate Glastonbury 2019 Lineup Breakdown

So the Glastonbury lineup has finally been revealed! After waiting through a fallow year and many-a-Brexit talk, we've finally been given some tangible evidence of what this year's much-anticipated festival will bring us. It'll be a good'un! Now remember people - this is just my personal opinion on the current lineup and things are bound to change and evolve as we approach closer to the end of June...let's get stuck in!

The Stats:

  • PIE #1: More of the same with festival lineups - still fairly male-dominated at the moment but remember, there's hundreds of more acts to be announced...

  • PIE #2: Great balance of various genres! Glad to see a large portion of jazz/soul/hip-hop/RnB acts taking up the lineup with rock/indie/folk of course still leading the way...

  • PIE #3: Whilst I've seen many-a-lineup brimmed with ancient acts on their lineup, I thought it'd be an interesting test to see how many 'newer' acts Glastonbury has...seems pretty equal!

The Headliners:

STORMZY (Friday)

- Track Record: Headlined Other Stage in 2017 - Latest Music: Touring 2017 LP 'Gang Signs & Prayer' - Thoughts: Unusual signing after only a single LP but channelling UK’s love for trap/grime and should be more than different from usual headliners - I'll certainly be there.

THE KILLERS (Saturday)

- Track Record: Last headlined in 2007; Secret set in 2017 - Latest Music: Touring 2017 LP 'Wonderful Wonderful' - Thoughts: Classic Americana/indie-rock band with beloved back-catalogue set to be a banger-filled set with raucous singalong perfect for packed-out Saturday night crowd!

THE CURE (Sunday)

- Track Record: Last headlined in 1995 - Latest Music: Touring 2018 remix/compilation LP 'Torn Down' - Thoughts: Legendary UK pop act dating back to 70's strewn with hits ripe for more upbeat Sunday night vibes...

The (Potential) Sub-Headliners:

  • JANET JACKSON - Heritage R&B act touring 2015 LP 'Unbreakable'

  • GEORGE EZRA - Indie-folker touring hugely-successful LP of 2018 'Staying at Tamara’s' (certainly not the biggest fan but hopefully the sun'll be out for this one)

  • LIAM GALLAGHER (Confirmed Saturday) - Legendary Britpop rocker touring LP of 2018 As You Were, confirmed to sub The Killers on Saturday!

  • MILEY CYRUS - Renowned country-pop singer touring recently released singles with Mark Ronson and upcoming 7th LP (would rather she just play her earliest hits to be honest...)

  • TAME IMPALA - Psych-rocker from Australia following hugely successful 2015 LP 'Currents' and expecting new LP soon!

The Legend Slot:

  • KYLIE MINOGUE (Sunday) - Track record: Touring 14th studio LP 'Golden' - Latest Music: In 2005 was forced to pull out of Glastonbury headline slot - Thoughts: In comparison to previous legends, seems like a weaker choice: Barry Gibb in 2017; ELO in 2016; Lionel Richie in 2015; Dolly Parton in 2014

The Sub-Sub-Headliners:

  • THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS - Legendary electronic duo promoting 9th LP set for release next month

  • VAMPIRE WEEKEND - Ivy-League indie-rockers touring 4th LP to be released in May after 6 years of studio silence (currently loving their latest singles!)

  • MS LAURYN HILL - Get your groove on to the legendary rapper and singer touring the anniversary of her seminal debut LP from 1998

  • JANELLE MONÁE - Prince-inspired rapper and singer headlining Sunday night on West Holts Stage for her latest LP 'Dirty Computer' (should be one of the highlights of the weekend...)

  • CHRISTINE & THE QUEENS - French synth-pop act touring well-received LP of last year 'Chris' (personally not the biggest fan)

  • HOZIER - Soulful-folker just dropped latest LP earlier this month Wasteland, Baby! (a fairly average LP)

  • TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB - Irish indie-rockers touring upcoming 4th LP expected later this year (scratching at the end of their sound's tenure from what's been released so far...)

  • JORJA SMITH - British R&B singer touring hugely-successful debut LP of last year 'Lost & Found' (expect a large crowd to turn out for this one no mater which stage she's on)

Favourite Undercard Picks:

  • BILLIE EILISH - True-blue millennial US pop singer is touring her hugely successful EP and currently waiting for her highly-anticipated debut LP next month...(recently sold-out 3 nights in London so expect another big crowd for this one)

  • IDLES - Bristol-punkers showcasing 2 brilliant punk LPs from last couple of years and have gained a reputation for seriously effervescent live shows!

  • KAMASI WASHINGTON - Seminal jazz act touring latest LP in 2018 'Heaven and Earth' (expect jazz of the ethereal, elongated kind)

  • KURT VILE & THE VIOLATORS - Chilled folker from the U.S. promoting latest LP last year 'Bottle It In' (expect some very chilled vibes enticing the hippies and stoners of the festival...)

  • LITTLE SIMZ - Highly-anticipated British rapper just dropped earlier this month her 3rd LP 'Grey Area' (definitely check her out before she blows up!)

  • REX ORANGE COUNTY - Highly sought-after British R&B-pop act touring latest handful of singles released (some bangers will surely be used within his arsenal)

  • ROSALIA - Spanish-born act is one of the most promising young pop acts incorporating flamenco into the pop sphere with one of the best LPs of last year 'El Mal Querer' (just go see her pls.)

  • SHARON VAN ETTEN - New Jersey indie-popper dropped successful LP earlier this year and currently embarking on sold-out UK tour

  • SHERYL CROW - The 90s hit singer-songwriter is backkkk! Whichever stage she's put on, it's bound to be a fun, uplifting and nostalgic folky trip down memory lane.

  • SLOWTHAI - One of the most promising underground British rappers with an unconventional style and touring latest EP of last year 'RUNT' (check him before he blows up, too!)

  • SONS OF KEMET - British jazz group released intriguing experimental jazz LP of last year 'Your Queen is a Reptile' tinged with tropes of world music (perfect for some chilled hangover/afternoon vibes...)

  • WU-TANG CLAN - Seminal rap group from US, now touring again with anniversary of one of most influential rap LPs 'Enter The Wu-Tang' (expect some epic stuff.)
