Victoria Park, London
For those looking to occupy the rest of their August weekends, look no further than East London’s All Points East and Field Day Festival. The festival has played host to an eclectic slew of acts since its inception in 2018, from indie-rock, to hip-hop and pop, and a litany of electronic subgenres; here are the main picks from this year's edition.
This year, its headliners are no different. Appointing electronic’s Kaytranada and Justice; indie’s Mitski, The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie; dance-punk’s LCD Soundsystem and hip-hop’s Loyle Carner; there’s plenty to sink one’s teeth into.
Navigating each day’s undercard, there’s plenty more on offer than first meets the eye. For the inaugural day, Thundercat remains R&B’s outlier whilst Channel Tres, Amaarae and Tkay Maidza also offer a swelling mixture of modern rap, soul and funk. Underneath Loyle Carner, hip-hop legend Nas makes a rare festival appearance, whilst André 3000 makes an ever rarer sighting from his elusive career; supported by the legendary likes of Cymande and the more recent artistry of Navy Blue and Lianne La Havas. Closing out the first weekend, Mitski’s headlining slot will be preceded by growing U.K. indie-pop singer Beabadoobee, as well as the U.S’ Ethel Cain and Canada's Men I Trust.
The following weekend will be commenced by indie stalwarts Pixies, Jai Paul and relative newcomers Jockstrap and Floating Points before the main headliner of LCD Soundsystem take to the stage. For the following day, Field Day Festival welcomes the indie-electronic scene of Romy, Yaeji and Mura Masa; Shygirl offers her sensual popsphere; Yves Tumor their cryptic indie-rock blend. For its finale, a litany of legendary indie acts play supporting roles to The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie’s 20th anniversary reunion: from Yo La Tengo, to Sleater-Kinney and Phoenix, whilst Everything Everything and The Lemon Twigs offer their relative mixtures of indie-rock electronics and glam rock.
All Points East Festival and Field Day Festival takes place at Victoria Park between 16th-25th August. For more information on tickets and line-up please visit here.
